Ehab Samy

I was born in the UK, where I stayed a while (sorry, where my parents stayed a while), then all I know is that we moved between the UK, Egypt, and Libya until I was 8 (or maybe 9) when we moved to London, we stayed there till 1984 then went back to Egypt. There, I got my secondary school certificate, then studied at the American University in Cairo for four years and got a BSc in Computer science.  I worked in Egypt for 5 years after graduation.

In 1997, I moved to Vancouver, BC, Canada where I have been ever since. I do an extensive amount of travel as part of my job.

I have been taking photos since 1992, it started with a course during my final year at university then turned into a great pastime and passion, I am always trying to explore new techniques and ways to make my photos special. The first camera I took photos with is a Russian made Zenit-E, great camera, very robust and functional. Some of the photos on this website were taken with the Zenit, most, were taken with my second one which I had from 1996 till 2002, and that was a Canon EOS 1000. I think it's a great camera and has thus far never let me down.

In January 2002, I bought a Sony DSC-F707 digital camera which I think is the start of the professional digital age. In December 2003 I bougt a Canon EOS Digital Rebel which so far has given me very good results. I think however, that digital photography has allowed cameras to move away from mechanical systems, and that for SLR's to truly move into the digital age, they must also move away from mechanical systems.

My camera bag has a set of close up lenses (filters), and a polarizing filter. I don't believe that photography requires much more than that. I believe that when I capture a moment, it has to be captured realistically, and not by adding a whole bunch of filters or effects to it.

All the photos on this site were scanned in and then resized for performance with the exception of all the ones that start with DSC, they are digital and have been resized for performance too.

I have always appreciated landscape and architecture and enjoy capturing these serene well designed subjects. I also enjoy taking photos of people, although have found that with the right person in the right mood, great results can be achieved. Recently I have been more interested in abstract subjects, such as rock formations, tree roots, plant formation etc.. I have some good results, but am not sure yet how this will turn out.
